Nagoya Airport (NGO) Information: Aerial cityscape viewA large, modern facility that opened as recently as 2005 on reclaimed land in the adjacent sea, Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) replaced Nagoya Airport as the chief international facility serving the Chubu region of central Japan. The airport is located around 32 km / 20 miles south-west of central Nagoya and serves flights to a long list of Japanese cities, as well as to other Asian countries, the US and Europe.

Chubu Centrair Airport operates a single four-storey terminal, which is well laid out and easy to navigate, and is currently being extended at the cost of almost $20 million, with a second runway being added. Nagoya Centrair Airport is situated in the Aichi Prefecture and within the relatively small city of Tokoname, and those passengers destined for the Tsu in Mie Prefecture will find fast boats waiting nearby.

Airport buses and trains connect Chubu Centrair to Nagoya and other destinations in the Chubu region, with the latter option being the fastest. Hotel shuttles are available to all passengers, while taxis running to a large number of set destinations can be found at Access Plaza and offer a good way to reach downtown (Sakae), the Port of Nagoya and the upmarket neighbourhood of Nishiki. Further afield, Chubu Centrair Airport is close to the cities of Gifu, Hikone, Kyoto and Osaka, all of which are easy to reach.

Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) Information: History and Facilities
A thoroughly modern Japanese airport, Chubu Centrair International Airport (NGO) opened in the spring of 2005. Using the latest in construction methods and telecommunications, Nagoya's sparkling new airport was constructed on a man-made, D-shaped island within the Ise Bay, which was landscaped with the natural environment and wildlife in mind. Traffic was immediately relocated from the already existing Nagoya Airport, which is no longer in use.

ATMs, banks and bureaux de change are on hand in various locations, being operated by the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Citi Bank, Shinkin Bank and Travelex. Internet kiosks and Wi-Fi access are also readily available, along with four lounges, operated by Centrair, KAL, Sakura and Star-Alliance. Shops, dining and relaxation facilities are also plentiful at Nagoya Chubu Centrair International Airport, including the 'Yurara' hair salon, and large 'Miya-no-Yu' public bath in the Sky Town area, offering breathtaking views of the aircraft as they arrive and depart.

Those with shopping on their mind when arriving at Nagoya's Chubu Centrair Airport will find more than 50 different stores, such as Ana Festa, the Blue Sky, Claires, Lawson, Mahora and the Sony Shop. Passengers with time to dine out will be able to enjoy Chinese, French, Italian, Korean, Japanese and Western-style cuisine, with the main restaurants clustered on the third and fourth floors and generally open between 06:00 and 21:00, or later.

In addition to the onsite business centre at Chubu Centrair Airport, the Nagoya Tokyu Hotel is located in downtown Nagoya and just a 20-minute drive from the airport, offering further business and conference facilities.
